IMS 413 - User Experience Research
Fall 2023
This project is centered on creating a user-friendly hiking app to help outdoor enthusiasts discover trails that meet specific needs like location, difficulty, and pet-friendliness. I began with a comprehensive competitive analysis to identify potential areas for improvement compared to leading apps, followed by heuristic evaluations to uncover usability gaps in similar interfaces.
After conducting user interviews and usability testing sessions, I synthesized findings into personas and journey maps to shape user-centered design solutions. From ideation and card sorting studies to building site maps, user flows, and prototypes, each design decision was informed by a rigorous research process. The final high-fidelity prototype, created in Figma, includes intuitive navigation, a filtering system for trail features, a community section for sharing hike experiences, and offline map capabilities.
This project not only refined my skills in user research and design but also strengthened my problem-solving abilities in designing meaningful user experiences tailored to specific outdoor adventure needs.
