IMS 354 - Intermediate Interaction Design
Spring 2022
In this project, I designed a financial health app aimed at helping college students manage their finances with confidence. Through the app, students can consolidate their financial accounts and track spending, savings, investments, and credit-building efforts in one place. Inspired by apps like Mint and Wally but tailored specifically for college students, my design includes a spending tracker, savings goals, and an investing feature, all aimed at cultivating responsible money habits without the shame sometimes associated with financial management.
Key features include:
Overview & Tracking: Displays recent transactions and allows users to rate their satisfaction with each, helping reduce financial stress.
Savings Goals: Enables users to create and track personalized savings goals with visual aids to reinforce their motivation.
Budgeting Tools: A budgeting feature helps users monitor spending across different categories, with an option to share progress with family or friends.
Community and Gamification: Users can earn rewards for healthy financial behaviors, motivating them through goal-tracking animations and community-based encouragement.
Additionally, I researched direct competitors and conducted ethnographic interviews with college students, identifying a need for financial tools that are approachable, supportive, and specifically attuned to student lifestyles. This app strives to bridge that gap by creating an engaging, practical financial experience.
